William Hatcher

Born and raised in Harlem, Billy carried with him throughout his life the richness, resilience, and spirit of the community that helped shape him. He was an intellectual in the truest sense: a man driven an ever abounding desire to learn. question, understand, and grow. He found inspiration in the pound questions of philosophy and the mysteries of quantum physics. embracing both as pathways to a deeper understanding of the universe and humanity's ace within it. Grounded by a deep and abiding faith, he believed that wisdom carried With it a responsibility to serve others. He dedicated himself to community service and to empowering those who were too often overlooked or underserved. Helping his father found the first ever community mental health center in Harlem: through mentorship. advocacy organizing. or simple acts of kindness. he sought to uplift others and create opportunities where none seemed to exist. Those who knew him will remember not only the depth of his intellect but also the warmth of his spirit. He understood a truth that many spend a lifetime trying to learn: that the smallest gesture can have the deepest impact. He recognized the dignity and worth of every person he encountered. He approached the world with wonder. engaged it with thoughtfulness. and left it better than he found it through his compassion and commitment to others; his legacy endures in the family he loved, countless lives he touched, the minds he inspired. and the communities he strengthened Billy was loved by and loved so many, he is survived by his Wife, Crissa, his children Oban, Jeremiah, Asali (Ugo). Sarah and John Eias (Shannon). his chosen son Troy. his grandchildren Creer, Nkechi, Willa, Chike and Issa. His beloved nieces and nephews Joe, Tommy, Anna and Julia, his adored Mother in Law Carol, and countless others who he considered family. Death cannot stop true love, all it can do is delay it a while. May his memory be eternal.
