It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Macchi Ware, age 86, of Union City and Teaneck, New Jersey, on Friday, 30 May 2025. She was a beloved mother, teacher, and friend to all, and touched the lives of so many. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and community.
Susan was born in Union City, New Jersey to Frank and Elizabeth (Anna) Macchi. She attended Emerson High School and was a graduate of Jersey City State College with a degree in Elementary Education. She was married to Donald Ware, was the mother to six sons, and the grandmother to seven grandsons and two granddaughters.
As an elementary and middle school teacher for more than 35 years, she inspired countless students to be more, think deeper, and approach the world on their terms, encouraging them to never settle for just good enough. She cared deeply for all her students and looked after them both in the classroom and out. She also had an unwavering commitment to community, serving on the PTA and a class mother – multiple times, as a Cub Scout den leader, raising money for scholarships, supporting local candidates and running the “canteen” at Teaneck Southern Little League for countless years.
But above all else, she took the time to raise her “six boys” and dote on her nine grandchildren, which in her mind was her crowning achievement. Over the course of nearly five decades, she rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her “favorite” athletes; Mom or Gramma was always in the bleachers cheering the loudest.
As a pillar of strength, compassion, and love, Susan will be deeply missed by her family and friends who were the cornerstone of her life. Her wisdom and warmth will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Preceding Susan in death are her husband Donald and sister Linda.
Memorial services will be held to honor her life and celebrate the cherished memories she leaves behind at Frank Patti Funeral Home on Main Street in Fort Lee, NJ on Thursday, June 5th from 4-8 PM. A service will be held on Friday, June 6th at 11:00am
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Susan's memory to her son's Walk to End Alzheimer's team: http://act.alz.org/goto/DanielWare, ensuring her legacy continues to make a difference.
