Michael Mirakian, a distinguished educator and devoted community leader, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, in Hackensack, New Jersey, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 3, 1944, in New York City, Mr. Mirakian dedicated his life to the pursuit of education, community service, and cultural enrichment, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He went on to earn two Master’s degrees from the City University of New York and Pace University respectively. His continuous pursuit of knowledge underscored a lifelong dedication to learning, teaching and mentoring.

Mr. Mirakian's professional journey began as a math and science teacher at Taft High School in the Bronx, where his commitment to academic excellence quickly became evident. He received numerous awards throughout his career recognizing his dedicated service to the schools and children of New York City, including the prestigious Children’s Champion Award. His devotion to nurturing young minds reflected both his professional expertise and his generous spirit.

Beyond his formal career, Michael Mirakian was a pillar of the Armenian community and a vibrant cultural advocate. A long-time member of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF), he was honored with the Varadian Spirit Award for Lifelong Service, a testament to his unwavering dedication. A a talented musician, he delighted many playing oud in the band Hye Lites, singing in the church choir and touring North America with the genocide based play the Georgetown Boys, where he led the troop as narrator. His leadership extended further as Director at Camp Haiastan in Franklin Massachusetts and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Sts.
