Lorraine “Bunny” Giordano
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Lorraine Marie Conover Giordano, age 85, of Leonia. She passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2026.
Born on Palm Sunday, April 6, 1941, she was given the nickname “Bunny” by her grandmother. Very few people knew her as Lorraine, but everyone knew Bunny. Raised in Hillsdale, New Jersey, she attended Pascack Valley High School and later earned a BA in History from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she met and married Frank Giordano. Married for over 60 years, they raised four children and later welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bunny spent most of her life deeply involved in the civic and cultural life of her community. A longtime resident of Leonia, New Jersey, she became an integral part of the town’s fabric through her extensive volunteer work. She chaired the Leonia Bicentennial and Centennial Committees and served as Recreation Commissioner for the Borough of Leonia. Bunny was also a dedicated member of the Junior Women’s Club and Women's Club. She became an active producer with the Players Guild of Leonia, founded Summerstage, was a board member for 20 years, and was recognized as a lifetime member of the Players Guild of Leonia. Over the years, her unending commitment to volunteer service earned her numerous recognitions, including multiple Volunteer of the Year awards. Recently, in honor of the upcoming USA’s 250th anniversary, the Leonia Historic Preservation Commission named Bunny Giordano the Honorary Chair of the Commission’s “USA 250 Committee”.
Bunny enjoyed staying active throughout her life. She played tennis socially, loved music—especially the oldies—and could often be found dancing to songs from artists like The Grass Roots, Fats Domino, Mac Davis, Barbra Streisand, and her favorite, Neil Diamond. Family members remember the house filled with music from the 8-track tape stereo and lively dancing in the living room. She also enjoyed television favorites such as M*A*S*H, and often joked that she resembled one of her favorite icons, Carol Burnett.
A longtime parishioner of St. John’s Church in Leonia, she expressed her faith through values she held dear, including service to others and maintaining strong family connections.
Beloved wife of her late husband, Frank, she is survived by her children Jennifer Rossakis and her husband Constantine, Michael and his wife Colleen, Amy Sobier and her husband Marc, Dan and his wife Melissa, her grandchildren Constantine, Kallan, Nadine, and Alexander, and extended family Yianni and Kayley, George and Christine, and their children Niko, James, Sophia, and Luke.
Bunny will be remembered by many in Leonia for her energy, her ability to connect with people, and her long-standing commitment to community service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Players Guild of Leonia (PO Box 131, Leonia, NJ 07605) or your favorite charity in her name.
