Kevin Andrew Smith

Beyond the final frontier, his voyage continues among the stars.

Kevin Andrew Smith passed away suddenly from a heart attack on September 3, 2026, in Fort Lee, New Jersey. He was born on December 24, 1971, in Detroit, Michigan.

Kevin was an accomplished man who was known as brilliant, analytical, funny, and generous. He was full of life. He built a career in technology that reflected both his intelligence and his dedication. After studying Computer Science at Hampton University, he went to work at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center right after college. He later served as a Systems Administrator at Palm Beach State College from 2006 to 2015, followed by his role as Manager of SAAS Technologies at the National Hockey League from 2015 to 2024. In 2025 and 2026, he worked as a Windows Engineer at Flow Traders, LLC, and in 2026 he also served as a Windows Engineer at BNP Parabas.

Beyond his professional life, Kevin found great joy in the things he loved and the people he shared them with. A lifelong fan of science fiction, he was especially passionate about Star Trek and Star Wars. He loved going to the movies with his family to see Marvel and DC films, traveling to new places, and spending time on Star Trek Cruises. He also enjoyed exploring new cuisines, approaching every experience with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a sense of adventure. Above all, Kevin was a devoted father to Benjamin and Olivia. Each year, they shared three special traditions that meant the world to them: attending New York Comic Con, celebrating Take Your Children to Work Day, and spending each child's birthday together. Kevin took immense pride in his children. They were his world. He loved creating memories with his family at theme parks, especially Disney and Universal. With a loving heart, an adventurous spirit, and an infectious zest for life, Kevin brought joy to those around him and embraced every opportunity to make life meaningful.

Kevin is survived by his son, Benjamin Smith; his daughter, Olivia Smith; by his former wife and mother of his children, Helen Smith. He is also survived by his brother, Mark Smith III; his sister, Katrina Smith; his stepdaughter Kelsey Myles and son-in-law Gabriel Myles; his loving girlfriend, Geraldine Vassallo; by his cousin McConnell Trapp, together with Katherine Cooper-Trapp and Samantha Trapp, his cousins Nerissa and Samantha Marie Trapp; and his cousins Jamie Dennis and Aginette Anderson.  He will be remembered by many other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Smith Jr. (2022), and his mother, Patricia Smith (2023).

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on September 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Frank Patti & Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home, 327 Main St, Fort Lee, NJ 07024. Friends and family are welcomed to share memories of Kevin from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Kevin will be remembered for his sharp mind, his humor, his generosity, and the happiness he found in family, friendship, and the stories and adventures he loved. His memory will remain with all who knew and loved him.
