John Peter Sercia Jr., age 59, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, passed away on April 24, 2025. Born on June 29, 1965, in Englewood, New Jersey, John was a lifelong resident of the Fort Lee area and a devoted member of the community he loved so dearly.
John was educated in the Fort Lee public school system, attending Fort Lee School #4 and Lewis F. Cole Middle School before graduating from Fort Lee High School. During his high school years, he proudly played football all four years, fostering a lifelong passion for sport and deepening his ties to his hometown.
John devoted many years of his professional life to the Fort Lee Department of Public Works, where he worked alongside his father. His contributions to the daily operations and infrastructure of Fort Lee were a testament to his dedication, work ethic, and pride in his community.
A passionate supporter of the New York Yankees, John found immense joy in following his favorite team throughout each season. His enthusiasm for baseball was infectious and well known to his family and friends. As loved ones fondly recall, “John loved his family, especially his nephew Alexander, Fort Lee, and the New York Yankees—and not necessarily in that order.”
Among the many joys in John’s life, none was greater than the time he shared with his beloved nephew, Alexander. The bond they shared was deep, meaningful, and enduring.
John is survived by his brother, Joseph Sercia; his brother-in-law, Peter Mertens; and his cherished nephew, Alexander Sercia. He was predeceased by his parents, John Sercia Sr. and Marie Sercia.
