Fort Lee, N.J. — Georgia Veru, 94, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at her home on December 25, 2025, following complications from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease
Born on January 30, 1931, in The Bronx, New York, Mrs. Veru was the daughter of the late Peter and Athena (Theophilopoulou) Chahales. She was a graduate of The Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts Class of 1949 and was an accomplished pianist with a beautiful singing voice. Music was an important part of her daily life, and she especially enjoyed performing for friends and family and was a choir member at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York as a young woman.
In 1952, she married Theodore D. Veru, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage until his passing on December 24, 2021. Mrs. Veru’s devotion to her children and grandchildren was the central joy of her life and the only thing more important to her than her music
Mrs. Veru appreciated beauty in every aspect of life, from a sunny day to the flowers she lovingly tended inside and outside her home, to the animals that peered through her windows. She always tried to make her surroundings more beautiful. She was also an active member of the National Ladies Philoptochos Society of the Greek Orthodox Church, the philanthropic arm of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, where she devoted her time to faith-based service and charitable endeavors,
She is survived by her children, Hope Veru Remoundos, Dennison T. Veru, and Peter T. Veru; and by her grandchildren, Vasiliki Theodora Remoundos, Georgia Nicole Veru, Nina Serene Veru, and Theodore Peter Veru. She was predeceased by her daughter, Christine Veru, and her husband, Theodore.
Our family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in the form of checks be made out to the following:

Please send checks to the attention of Rachel Seltzer at Palisade Capital Management and put in the memo line “Georgia Veru”. We will deliver the checks with your address for proper acknowledgement when the school reopens after the holiday.
