With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Francis (Frank) Alfonse Giordano, age 84, of Leonia. He passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, surrounded by his family while listening to the Yankees.
Born on August 1, 1940, to Alfonse and Mary Giordano, he is survived by his loving wife (Lorraine) Bunny (nee Conover) of 60 years, his children Jennifer and Constantine Rossakis, Michael and Colleen (nee Patti), Amy and Marc Sobier, Daniel and Melissa (nee Miller), and his grandchildren Constantine, Kallan, Nadine, and Alexander, and extended family Yianni and Kayley (nee Russell), and George and Christine (nee Slack) and their children Niko, James, Sophia and Luke.
Frank grew up in Palisades Park, NJ, and graduated from Leonia High School in 1958. Frank earned his Electrical Engineering degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he met his wife, Bunny. They married in 1964 and moved to Pittsfield, MA, where Frank worked for General Electric. From there, Frank and Bunny moved their young family to Sunnyvale to fulfill a lifelong dream of living in California. He worked for Lockheed Martin in the mid-1960s until they moved back to NJ to help take over the family business, delivering ice and coal. Along with his brother, Albert, they developed the company into A. Giordano and Sons Plumbing, Heating, and Fuel Oil.
A Master Plumber for 40+ years and lifetime member of the Eastern Bergen Master Plumbers Association, Frank transitioned to Plumbing Inspector and worked for close to a dozen towns over the last 20 years. He was exceptionally well known for his knowledge and experience alongside his teaching and mentoring. Contractors all knew him and revered his guiding expertise. He was most recently employed until age 84, where he worked for his favorite town, Saddle Brook, NJ, until April 24, 2025.
Frank was active with the Lion's Club of Leonia, serving as President and Treasurer and working the griddle at every annual Pancake Breakfast. He enjoyed league bowling in early adulthood, and for a man who worked seven days a week during the heating season, he became an avid and impressive golfer with an eight handicap. He was a Rockland Country Club and Broad Acres member and took great pleasure in playing 36 holes when he could, and even with frost on the ground, would suggest, "We'll just use orange balls."
A consummate jokester, Frank thoroughly enjoyed a great laugh and never took himself (or anyone, for that matter) too seriously. He found humor everywhere and was highly adept at connecting with and making friends with everyone and anyone he met. Frank was loved dearly by his family and friends and was a very social and active man until the day he passed. He will be greatly missed, and his family takes great pleasure in knowing that he is hanging out with his childhood idol, Yogi Berra, remarking on the Yankee's current season.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity in Frank’s name.
The family asks that you play a round of golf, enjoy a Yankee game with someone you love, tell a funny Frank story, and have a good laugh.
