Diane Tavitian of Waldwick, New Jersey passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Diane was the daughter of Aram Terlemezian and Elizabeth Shalamian born June 16, 1954 in Syracuse, New York. She was the granddaughter of Arpine and Dajad Terlemezian; Dajad was instrumental in defending Van, Armenia. Diane was the granddaughter of Barkev and Karnig Shalamian.
Diane graduated from Waldwick High School in 1972. Diane worked at B. Atlman & Co and later at Nordstrom as an administrative assistant both in Paramus, New Jersey.
She joined the Armenian Youth Federation where she was very active. In April of 1973, at an Armenian demonstration in Washington, DC, Diane met her future husband, Eddie Tavitian. They were married on May 15, 1976 at St. Illuminators in New York City, NY. Their first daughter Melanie was born in 1978. Their second daughter Dawn was born in 1980. She was overjoyed when her daughters found happiness and started their families. She was a loving Mother-in-law to Armen Balikjian and Michael Grubman.
Diane was a devoted Grandmother to her four grandchildren: Megan, Aram, Kevin and Sevan; and undoubtedly played a significant role in their lives. She was extremely proud of their accomplishments in Armenian School, being active in the Armenian Youth Federation as well as them attending AYF Camp Haiastan in Franklin, Massachusetts in the summer. Her legacy will live on through her loving daughters and four beautiful grandchildren, as they were her shining light. The unrelenting love she had for them will live on in their hearts and memory forever. She had an incredible passion for her family and heritage and culture.
Diane was a very special person. She was an extremely sweet, kind, and thoughtful, soul who always showed genuine love for all. She was a hilarious, fun and strong woman with an amazing personality who was blessed with numerous dear friends whom she also leaves behind.
Diane leaves behind her dear, loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Eddie, who unselfishly donated one of his kidneys to her in 2021. The love they shared was like no other and they will certainly be together in spirit celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary on May 15, 2026.
