Diana E Rooney

Diana E Rooney (nee Foulkes) of Leonia passed away on Thursday May 15, 2025. She was born December 2, 1947 in Jersey City to the late Robert and Sylvia Foulkes. She attended Lincoln High School and graduated with a Bachlors in Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Diana met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Rooney, in her neighborhood. They were married on July 15, 1973. Diana and Bob were devoted to each other during their fifty plus years of marriage. Bob predeceased Diana in March 2024.

Diana taught fourth grade in the Number 6 School in Jersey City for four decades. She was instrumental in establishing an after-school enrichment program for elementary schools in Jersey City. Diana always kept track of her students, and they were happy to share their successes with her as they grew up.

Bob and Diana enjoyed travelling, whether it was driving around Europe or sailing on cruises. Their “happy place” was Aruba. They looked forward to their vacations and visiting their Aruban friends every year.

Diana is survived by her sister, Glenna Rosenthal (husband Les), her sister-in-law Catherine Kaulfers (husband Terence), her niece Lauren Picerni (husband Nick), her nephew Paul Kaulfers (wife Priscilla), her niece Katie Kaulfers, her grand-niece Madeleine Picerni and grand-nephew Theodore Kaulfers.

The Bucci family fondly remembers the holidays and special occasions that were celebrated with Diana and Bob over the years. The teachers and staff at the Number 6 School. Her supportive neighbors encompass all of her friends that became her family too. Diana will be sorely missed.
