Dennis R. Straten, age 82, of Oakland, NJ, passed peacefully on Wednesday July 16, 2025. He was born on April 1, 1943 in Hoboken, NJ. He was a US Army veteran, who proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, a chef, and a restauranteur . His family describes him as a caring, kind, energetic, outgoing, respectful, and hardworking man that did everything for his wife and family. His personality and magnetic smile drove him to easily make friends wherever he went. His passion for sports and cooking never went unseen by his family and friends. Beloved husband of the late Barbara Straten. Devoted father of Sandra Schaefer and her husband Brian, Michele Matesic and her husband Joey, Dennis Straten and his fiancé Jennifer, Brian Straten, and Mark Straten and his husband Eric. Cherished grandfather of Michael, Marissa, Stephanie, and Samantha Schaefer. Beloved brother-in-law of Mary Davis and her husband Robert. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive their friends on Sunday from 12-3pm at the Frank A. Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home 327 Main Street “opposite the Fort Lee Library”.
