Chun Whan Kim, maiden name Oh, a beloved mother, faithful Christian, and accomplished homemaker, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospital in Paterson. Born on April 16, 1937, in Seoul, Korea, Mrs. Kim led a life marked by devotion, love, and remarkable dedication to her family and faith.
Having earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Ehwa University in 1960, Chun Whan Kim immigrated to the United States in 1975, where she embraced new challenges and opportunities with grace and resilience. Throughout her life, she was known for her intelligence, loving nature, and unwavering faith. As a prayer warrior and a committed member of her church community, she exemplified spiritual strength and kindness.
Mrs. Kim is cherished for her talents and interests in sewing, cooking, jewelry making, growing orchids, and shopping, skills she perfected and joyfully shared throughout her lifetime. Above all, she was devoted to her family, always treasuring moments spent together and creating lasting memories filled with warmth and affection.
Her proudest accomplishments remain the raising of four beautiful children: Han Kim, Jessica Woo, Kristen Kim, and Alexis Sung. Through her loving guidance, Mrs. Kim nurtured seven grandchildren and one great-grandson, who carry forward her legacy of love and faith.
She is survived by her oldest son, Han Kim, and his wife Christina Pak; their children Matthew Kim, Katie Kim, and Julia Kim. Her oldest daughter, Jessica Woo, and her husband Jonathan Woo, along with their children Ellie Woo, who is married to Paul Apibunyopas, their son Luke Apibunyopas, and Erin Woo, who is married to Mark Pridmore, also honor her memory. Her second daughter, Kristen Kim, and her third daughter, Alexis Sung, survive her as well. Alexis is the mother of Isabel Sung and Taylor Sung. Alexis was formerly married to John Sung, who is deceased.
The family invites all who knew Mrs. Kim to celebrate her life during the visitation on May 7, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bethany Methodist Church of Wayne, located on Alps Road in Wayne, New Jersey. A graveside service will follow on May 8, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM at Laurel Grove Cemetery, 295 Totowa Road, Totowa, New Jersey.
Chun Whan Kim’s legacy as a wonderful mother, a faithful Christian, and a woman of extraordinary grace will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished by her family and friends.
