Bernice Sara Kurkjian

Sara, as she was known by most, was born September 28, 1932 to Susan and Lee Ara Paroonagian. Seven and a half years later, her sister Jeanie was born. They lived in Philadelphia together for many years. Sara was a devoted and faithful Christian, attending the Holy Trinity Armenian Church. When the ACYOA was first formed, Sara represented her Church in girls’ basketball. She married her beloved husband Chuck in 1955, settling in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.

Sara enjoyed traveling with her husband Chuck and later with her sister Jeanie. She enjoyed spending time with her nephews, nieces, and cousins for many years.

After high school, Sara began working in Girard Bank’s credit department in Philadelphia. Then, she moved to Lord & Taylor as a fragrance specialist and stayed there for 34 years. Even after retirement, Sara (nicknamed Bernie there) was called back to be a fragrance specialist for Givenchy. 

Sara is survived by her sister, Jeanie, her nephews, Gregory, Darren, Steven, and Danny, and nieces Lydia and Loretta.

A loving daughter, wife, sister and Aunt, Sara will be missed by all.
