Ana Maria Solano Hosser

Ana was born at noon on August 1, 1927, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico and died peacefully on November 15, 2025 in New Jersey. The 98 years between those moments were filled with love, family, and an infectious and sometimes mischievous sense of humor.

Ana loved taking care of her people, and feeding anyone who came through her door. She was an incredible cook, known for endless batches of rice and beans, spaghetti and meatballs, and chicken fricasee—made for friends, family, and even strangers who she came across.

At age 18, Ana traveled to the continental United States to visit her sister in Michigan. She later moved to New York, where she made her home and raised three children with Raymond Solano. Eventually, Raymond and Ana moved to New Jersey where they both worked and raised their three children until Raymond died. Ana later married Eric Hosser, and settled in Englewood, where she lived for nearly 50 years in her little apartment on Engle Street.

Ana worked for several years as a nurse’s aide at Englewood Hospital, bringing her loving and caring spirit to patients and colleagues alike. Outside of work, she loved sweets and a hot cup of coffee, playing cards (careful, she might cheat!), trying her luck on scratch-off lottery tickets, and laughing with unmistakable gusto.

She was beloved in her community, and she took special pride in joyfully supporting all the children in her life—cooking them “early dinner,” walking with them to the shops, playing with toys on the rug, and cheering loudly at sporting games and events.

Ana’s eldest child, Ray, predeceased her. She is survived by her two daughters (Betty and Karen), four grandchildren (Jennifer, Leigh, Jonathan, and Elliot) and seven great-grandchildren (Aiden, Harrison, Sebastian, Diego, Nate, Theo, and Daniel).

Being loved by Ana was special; she accepted people for who they were, and never wanted more from you than who you were. Her legacy lives in the many people she fed, loved, and welcomed across her long life.
