This library is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Frank
A. Patti, a medical professional who resided in Leonia for over 50 years, and a
retired decorated Naval Commander. In recognition for his generosity in
securing the financing that provided for the purchase and construction of
today's funeral home.
Dr. Patti began his active service in the Navy at the
outbreak of World War II, after finishing Flight School and receiving his
pilot’s certificate from the Naval Aviation Flight School at Pensacola
Florida. During the War he served
on the U.S.S Santee as a Medical Officer.
While on the Santee the ship was struck twice by Japanese Kamikazes.
Dr. Patti remained at his post for 72 hours tending to the wounded.
For his actions he was presented by Admiral Kinkaid one of the top
Naval Awards “The Legion of Merit”. Dr.
Patti continued his military service until April of 1970, when he officially
retired from the Naval reserves.
Aside from his military career, Frank Alphonso
Patti, MD had a distinguished medical career serving Bergen County for over 50
years through his practice in Leonia and his affiliation with both Holy Name
and Englewood Hospitals. He was a
past president of the Leonia Board of Health, a professor at Columbia
Presbyterian Hospital, and an honorary doctor for the 1980 U.S. Olympic team.
The
Library
centers around grief and support, and includes various subjects on death and
dying. It is a free lending service provided by the funeral home in an
